Midget BB Crunch capture New Years Classic

The Doyles Windows and Sunrooms Midget BB Crunch girls hockey team took home gold at the 42nd New Years Classic in Belleville this weekend. The team went undefeated in the tournament before their final 2-1 victory against the host Belleville Bearcats in the championship game.

The Doyle’s Windows and Sunrooms Napanee Midget BB Crunch got 2018 started off on the right skate, winning the Belleville Bears 42nd annual New Year’s Eve Classic this past weekend.

In the championship game they bested the host Bearcats 2-1 courtesy two goals from Rayanne West. Madelyn Marlow and Mackenzie O’Sullivan each had an assist while Amber Weese had two. Kiera Golosky earned the win in net.

Napanee opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over Belleville. Katie Hearns, Marlow and Megan Morrow each had a goal with assists to West, Brooklyn Benn, Hearns and Emma Schmidt.

In their second game they doubled up Syracuse 4-2. Hailey Treadgold and Hearns each had a goal while O’Sullivan had two. Marlow, Morrow and Olivia Fenwick had helpers.

In their third game the Crunch posted a 4-1 win over the West Northumberland Wild. Schmidt, Treadgold, Fenwick and Hearns all scored with Weese, Anna Murphy, Hearns and O’Sullivan chipping in with assists.

  • The Peewee BBs played a double header against the Nepean Wildcats.

They were ranked sixth in the province prior to the meeting, the Peewee BB Crunch were ranked 7th.

They tied the first game 3-3. Meena Peterson played solid in goal.

The Crunch scored with two seconds left on the clock to tie it up.  Scorers were Kaylee Brooks, Sydney Woodcock and Maeve Kennedy. Assists went to Claire McConnell with two and Lila Pringle.

In the second game the Crunch held on for a 4-3 win. Keyra Herrington played well for the win.

Jaidyn Manion and McConnell each potted a goal while Mackenzie Tyner scored twice. Assists went to Gracie Hughes and Sydney Woodcock.

  • The Peewee Bs remained undefeated over the holidays. On Dec. 27 they earned a 2-1 win against the North Durham Blades on goals by Taryn Landine and Jocelyn Masters.

On Dec. 28 they had a 5-1 win against the West Northumberland Wild powered by goals from Stella Sutton, Annika Moore, Masters with two and Landine

Nicole Geenevasen had three assists while Masters added one.

On Dec. 29 they skated to a 2-2 draw with the Wild.

Sutton and Brisies Hunter provided the offence with Geenevasen picking up an assist.

On Jan. 2 they picked up a 2-1 win over the North Durham Blades.

Kaya Richardson and Landine scored with assists to Geenevasen and Richardson.

Meredith Peters was in net for all games with three wins and a tie.
