Maddi Wheeler and her Team Canada U18 teammates will begin their quest for gold tomorrow evening as they take on Sweden in their opening game of the IIHF Women’s World Championship, in Obihiro, Japan.

The forward from Erinsville joined her teammates for a pair of pre-tournament exhibition games earlier this week, as Canada lost 3-2 to the Valley West Giants in a shootout in B.C. before blanking Russia 4-0 in Japan.

The games start to count tomorrow at 11 p.m. eastern time, when Canada takes on Sweden. They’ll face Team USA Monday at 3 a.m. EST and Russia on Tuesday at 11 p.m. EST to close out the preliminary round.

The quarter-finals take place Jan. 10.
