Lennox and Addington County’s Archives is once again welcoming guests back into its building to browse their expansive collections of family records and more.

Standard provincial COVID-19 guidelines are still in place, but for the most part its business as usual for the Archives, located at 97 Thomas Street E in Napanee. Guests can book appointments in advance or simply walk-in, provided their numbers still fall in line with COVID-19 guidelines.

Among the items found in the Archives are business records, church papers, a county marriage index from 1858-1869, maps, an index of the Napanee Standard and Napanee Express Newspaper (which was later merged with the Beaver in 1965), a collection of photographs and a sheet music collection, among many more.

With the return of guests means the Archives can again accept donations to their collection.

“We’ll accept donations of records pertaining to individuals, families or businesses that help tell the story of the history of Lennox and Addington County,” said Kim Kerr, archivist with Lennox and Addington County. “Records may include letters, diaries, photographs, maps, art, the list goes on. Donations don’t have to be 100 or more years old to be valuable – we would love to see our collection expand with records from the post WW II era. We also accept digital donations, for example, digital photographs from around the county that show what life has been like for the duration of the pandemic would be a welcome addition to the collection. We’re very much interested in the community’s COVID-19 related records and would like to remind everyone that our COVID-19 Time Capsule is still open for submissions.”

The county is also constantly processing items from its collection for its online database and users are encouraged to check back regularly. The database can be viewed at https://lennoxaddington.pastperfectonline.com/.
