Keep cats indoors

I am sure that this letter will raise the hackles of more than a few folks.

Well tough. I have had it up to here with members of the feline species deciding that our carefully planted and tended garden beds are their own private latrines. Whether these cats are tame or feral I do not know. In my honest opinion anyone who has a cat or two should not allow them to roam outside – period. Give them a warm bed, a clean litter box and two squares a day and they should be happy. If they must go outside put them on a leash and keep them on your property. Our daughter had two lovely felines who never ventured outside and lived to a pretty good age-one is now approaching 20 and the other passed away a couple of years ago. They always had a warm bed, a clean litter box and two squares a day. Nothing more was needed. I fear that the majority of the cats I see in my yard may well be feral. Barn cats are a different breed entirely. They seldom leave the farm and why should they, as there is always plenty of food.

After all dogs must be licensed, vaccinated and looked after so why not cats? If you have cats, get them spayed or neutered, get them their needles yearly and keep them indoors.
