The NDSS Golden Hawks girls’ hockey team’s quest for a KASSAA championship three-peat has been put on hold.

KASSAA, the local high school sports governing body, announced on its website that the winter sports season has been postponed. All high school sports have been suspended since March due to COVID-19.

The NDSS Golden Hawks girls’ hockey team defeated the Frontenac Falcons 5-2 in last season’s championship to repeat as champions. Earlier last season the Hawks also repeated as NDSS Invitational tournament champions, which is held annually at Napanee’s Strathcona Paper Centre. The host Hawks have won four of the previous five tournaments. The team was gearing up for the OFFSAA tournament when schools were closed and switched to online learning for the remainder of the school year.
Meanwhile NDSS’ boys’ hockey team was looking to build on last year’s success as they reach the KASSAA finals before falling 3-2 to La Salle in the finals.

NDSS’ swim team was another club looking to repeat its success of last winter which saw Owen Googe win EOSSAA gold in the 100m breaststroke, 100 m IM and 200 m IM.

NDSS boys’ curling team also reached a KASSAA final in March.
