Jaydon Wood snapped the Napanee Raiders’ 10 game winning streak on Friday, potting the overtime winner to lift his Amherstview Jets to a 3-2 victory at the Strathcona Paper Centre.

Wood ended the game just three minutes into extra time with an unassisted tally.

Both teams’ goalies shone bright on the night, with Napanee’s Bailey Maracle matching Amherstview’s Brady Sarazin save-for-save for much of the game.

Brodie Maracle drew first blood for Napanee, scoring on the power-play at the 16:15 mark of the first.

That lead held until midway through the second when Zachary Beaubien got the visitors on the board. Jacob Gilbert gave Napanee the lead at 18:42, but was quickly offset by Amherstview’s Nicholas Vecchiarelli in the final seconds of the frame.

Amherstview fired 10 pucks at Maracle in the third period while the Raiders mustered just five shots at Sarazin, none of which found the back of the net. Amherstview continued to dominate in overtime, garnering all five shots, the fifth being the one to end the game. Sarazin finished the game with 38 saves while Maracle had 34.

The two goals were the lowest output by the Raiders all season, which was previously was set at four goals. Heading into the game they had averaged seven goals a game.

Napanee’s scoring slump didn’t last long however as they bounced back with an 11-1 rout of the hapless Campbellford Rebels on Sunday evening at the SPC.

Bailey Matthews had four goals, Evan Foley and Logan White each had a pair while Nic Case, Aidan McFarland and Brodie Maracle each had one. Mitch Bown made 25 stops for the win while his counterpart Kyle Hayes saw 55 shots on the night.

Napanee will continue their extended homestand on Friday when they welcome the Port Hope Panthers. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m.

On Sunday they will take on the Uxbridge Bruins in a rare Sunday home game. Puck drop is 6:30 p.m.

Napanee is now 11-0-0-1 on the year, giving them 23 points. Gananoque is second at 7-1-1-2 (17 points), Amherstview third at 7-4 (14), Picton fourth at 5-6-1 (11), Port Hope fifth at 4-4-0-1 (nine) and Campbellford is 0-10-0-1 (one).
