The Town of Greater Napanee will be celebrating Earth Day with a pair of green initiatives, starting with a ‘giveaway day’ this Saturday and a tree sapling give away on April 29.

Saturday April 22 will be the town’s second ever giveaway day, where residents will leave gently used, working items at the end of their driveway, which can be picked up by anyone who feels they can put it to good use. Items will be available throughout the township, including town hall. The main floor of town hall will be open to the public and residents can look through office furniture deemed surplus. Anyone looking to take home an item is required to bring any moving tools necessary such as screwdrivers or dollies. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Photos of available items will be posted to the town’s Facebook page. Items are first come, first serve.

Tree seedlings will be handed out from the parking lot of the Strathcona Paper Centre April 29 starting at 9 a.m. and will run while supplies last. Those collecting seedlings must bring a pail to transport them home and then are encouraged to plant them as soon as possible. Select species will be available.
