Josh McNamee had four touchdowns to lead the NDSS Golden Hawks senior football team to a 43-0 win in their KASSAA season opener against the Ernestown Eagles on Friday at NDSS.

McNamee got the Hawks on the board in the first, taking a hand-off from quarterback Ben Fisher and threading the Eagle defense into the end zone.

Nate Gifkins made good on all his field goal attempts save for one, when the snap was fumbled but he quickly recovered and ran the ball in for the two point conversion.

Gifkins also ran in a touchdown, faking a punt attempt on a fourth down and instead running for the 40 yard score. Connor Birney also added a touchdown for the Hawks.

Napanee’s senior will enjoy a week off before returning to action Oct. 5 when they host Frontenac. The junior Hawks will welcome the Kingston Secondary Bears at 2 p.m. on Oct. 5.

NDSS’ junior boys volleyball team split their first two games of the season, falling in five sets against Regi to open the season before rebounding with a 3-0 sweep of Granite Ridge on Thursday.

The senior boys were swept by Regi but then pulled off a sweep of their own of Millie-Iles Public High School.

In field hockey Abby Kelsey scored the lone goal in Napanee’s 1-0 win over Bayridge to open the season on Sept. 19. Napanee was blanked in its second game, 5-0 against Holy Cross.
