Curling is often said to be a game of inches and that rang true for the NDSS Golden Hawks girls team, who missed out on last week’s EOSSAA playoffs by the smallest of margins.

The girls played in Alexandria on the first day and won both games: 10-2 versus Fulford Academy in Brockville and 9-2 against Vankleek Hill near Hawkesbury. That put the Hawks in a position that if they won Wednesday morning, they would be top of their pool and in the semifinals against Opeongo, near Renfrew.

Unfortunately,  the girls didn’t get off to a good start against Glengarry and struggled throughout the game, losing a 6-5 decision. That put them in a three-way tie for first in their pool. The tie breaker went against NDSS (total distance in draws to the button before each of the three games) as Napanee had the worst distance of the three.

For Napanee it was a tough way to lose out, especially with the talent they had. The winners were from Kingston Secondary School, a team the Hawks had once earlier in the season.
