Napanee’s hockey community suffered a great loss last week with the sudden passing of of Bill Raney on Dec. 14 at the age of 47.

As the community mourns the loss, friends of the family have launched a Go Fund Me to help the family through this difficult time, which can be found at https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-love-for-the-raney-family.

“I’ve known Bill for over 40 years and played hockey with Bill growing up,” said Mike Gibson, who is a coach with the same U15B Napanee Crunch that Raney was also coaching this season. “He has two sons and a daughter, which one son will be going into college next year and the other year and half from now.”

Raney has coached hockey in the community for the last 10 years.

“I’ve played hockey most of my life and I know how the hockey community is so close it is like adding another part to your  family,” said Gibson. “Bill was such a great person, always smiling  and you always had a good laugh with him. Myself and the community are going to miss him deeply.”

AM Sports will also be donating proceeds of all cash skate sharpenings from Dec. 26 through the end of January to the Raney family.
