The Lennox and Addington OPP recovered two stolen vehicles and charged two males.
On Dec. 19, 2023, just before 9 a.m., L&A County OPP were called to a report of a stolen truck traveling eastbound on Hwy 401 towards Tyendinaga Township. Quinte West OPP had received an Automatic Licence Plate Reader (ALPR) hit for a stolen truck and advised L&A County OPP. Members attended and located the vehicle still traveling eastbound at Deseronto Road. Officers activated their emergency lights and the vehicle did not stop. Police deployed a spike belt in front of the truck at Palace Road. All four tires hit the spike belt and the vehicle exited at County Road 4.
As police were following the stolen truck there was an ALPR hit for a stolen Jeep. The stolen Jeep was also eastbound on Hwy 401 at County Road 4. Police blocked the Jeep in and it stopped without incident. No damage to police vehicles or stolen vehicle. The lone occupant of the jeep was arrested and brought back to the L&A County detachment.
The stolen truck drove into a field just off of County Road 4 and County Road 2. The lone driver fled on foot. Police contained the area, Kingston Police Canine Unit, and OPP Canine Unit attended to search the area for the male. After an extensive search, the male was located by police and arrested without incident.
As a result of the stolen Jeep investigation, L&A County OPP has charged a male, age 36, of Saint-Hubert, Quebec, with:
- Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Possessing automobile master key
- Operation while prohibited
As a result of the stolen truck investigation, L&A County OPP has charged a male, age 27, of Lachine, Quebec, with:
- Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Flight from police officer
- Dangerous driving
- Obstruct Peace officer
Both accused are being held for a bail hearing. Names of the accused and court date will be released when charges have been sworn.
