Shaking off their ugly start in the semifinal series opener, the Frankford Huskies responded with a much more complete effort to top the Napanee Raiders 5-3 on Friday night at the SPC before 754 fans.

Frankford’s Karsten Leonard got the Huskies on the board first, scoring one second shy of the seven minute mark of the first period. The Huskies would never trail from that point on, always finding just enough offense to stay one step ahead of the Raiders.

Napanee scored one goal in each frame courtesy Trent Williams, Marshall McFarland and Erik MacNiel. Williams’ goal tied it in the first while McFarland and MacNiel both brought the team to within one, the latter cutting Napanee’s deficit to 4-3 with three minutes to play.

Frankford’s Joey Coates sealed the win with a goal in the final seconds of the game.

Sam Dingle made 24 saves for the win, Logan Vale took the loss with 21 saves.

The series will head to Frankford on Sunday for a pivotal Game 3. Puck drop is 6:50 p.m.

Game 4 is back in Napanee on Tuesday starting at 8 p.m. at the SPC.

Elsewhere the Port Hope Panthers doubled up 6-3 on the Amherstview Jets on Tuesday to take a 1-0 series lead in their best-of-seven. Game 2 goes Saturday in Port Hope and Game 3 Sunday in Amherstview at 7:25 p.m.
