Investigators with the Lennox & Addington OPP have arrested and charged a driver in relation to a wrong-way vehicle collision that took place near a Hwy 401 in Napanee in May of this year.

The investigation found that shortly after midnight on May 1, a pickup truck, travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Hwy 401, collided head-on with a transport truck. The pickup truck driver sustained critical injuries in the collision and was transported to hospital by paramedics.

L&A County OPP officers arrested Jonathan Erskine, 39 years old, of South Frontenac Township, Ontario Friday morning. He has been charged with dangerous driving, impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle while over the legal blood alcohol limit.

Erskine, a former NHLer, played with the Dallas Stars, New York Islanders and Washington Capitals in a career that was just shy of 500 games. Prior to going pro he played for Deseronto’s Quinte Hawks. In May his agent confirmed to TSN his client was in Napanee to watch the Raiders play Game 5 of the Schmalz Cup.

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee on Nov. 19.
