Napanee District Minor Hockey teams had perhaps their best showing ever at the Andy McGarvey Memorial Tournament held this weekend at the Strathcona Paper Centre and Deseronto arenas.

With nine Napanee teams entered into the various divisions, seven reached the final game with five winning gold.

-The Midget BB Stars had the joy of getting revenge, defeating Charlan 8-3 on Sunday after losing 5-4 to this same club the night before. Ryan Kirkpatrick and Corbin Gibson each had a hat trick while Cal DuChene and Logan Votary had singles. Murray Craig was solid in net. Earlier they defeated Cornwall 2-0 and lost 5-3 to Drummondville.

-The Exit Realty Acceleration Bantam BBs were full measure for their 3-1 win over Stirling to capture bantam gold. Daniel Chase, Carter McKee and Marshall Maracle tallied for the locals while goalie Ryan Aldridge patrolled the crease. They were perfect in the round robin, too, with wins of 3-1 and 5-0 over Stirling and 3-2 and 7-3 over Ottawa West.

-The Peewee BBs battled hard to defeat National Lorraine Rosemere 4-2 in the final of their division. Nic Compeau set the stage, scoring 17 seconds into the contest. Jayden Holden went coast-to-coast, and Compeau completed his hat trick for the win. Noah Brown was called on to make key saves. Earlier they squeaked by PEC twice by 2-1 scores and beat the Nationals 5-0 and 3-2.

-The Peewee AEs were solid 8-0 winners over Paris in the AE Final. Ryan Maracle had three goals, Noah Nugent netted two and Owen Kish and Carter Slaven had singles. In the round robin, they dominated Newcastle 15-1 and defeated Paris and Elmvale by identical 6-2 scores.

-In the Atom BB division, the Joyce’s Meat and Deli Stars topped Lindsay 6-1 in the division Final. Kohen Cutler chipped in an impressive four goals with Colton Lockridge and Ben Kerr notching singles. Jack Godfey and Caleb Scrimshaw shared the goaltending duties. Earlier, they posted wins over Stirling 8-0 and 8-1, and Lindsay 6-0 and 5-0, allowing just one goal all weekend for perhaps the best showing of all the Napanee teams.

-In novice the Napanee Stars reached the final but were outscored 4-2 by Loyalist to earn Silver Medals.  They were atop the standings after round robin play defeating Alexandria 4-2, Deep River 3-0 and Caledonia 6-2.

-The Midget Roster Selects also lost in the final, 7-0 to the George Bell Midget Seniors.

Earlier, Owen Lambert had a pair of markers in a 3-2 win over Cumberland A5’s, while Nolan Gunter had two in their 5-1 victory over York Mills. They also beat Cumberland Dukes 4-2.
