The host Napanee Express wasted no time making a statement at the U20 Men’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championships on Tuesday morning, rolling to a 13-0 win over Nova Scotia’s Unamaki Blue Whites.

Connor Brooks set the visitors down in order to open the game and the Express bats went to work in the home half, posting five runs, four of which came with two outs. Lead off batter Tyler Franklin scored Napanee’s first run of the tournament after he dashed home from third on a wild pitch, sliding in safely.

Ty Branchaud had three RBI to lead the way. Quinton Pierce and Rob Barker also chipped in with one RBI each. Napanee took advantage of some defensive miscues from the Blue Whites, who committed three errors in the field.

Dylan Hehn took over for Brooks after two innings to pitch two scoreless innings of his own. The game was halted after the Blue Whites’ fourth at-bat due to the mercy rule.

Napanee’s next game will see them take on the Saskatoon Selects at 1 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. Later that evening they’ll face the Hagersville Haldimand Heat at 7 p.m.

Earlier Tuesday morning the Tavistock Athletics cruised to a 9-1 win over Saskatchewan’s Rosebud Junior Royals.

The national tournament continues all week through Sunday at the Napanee Fairgrounds.
