Softball Napanee has one last success to celebrate as its wraps up an incredible 2019, as another of their players has been selected to a national team.

Centreville’s Brandon Barker will represent Canada on the U15 222 Fastpitch team, which will take part in the National Championship in New Zealand, Jan. 9-12. Prior to the tournament the Canadians will depart on Dec. 30 and play a handful of exhibition games to get ready for the main event.

The 222’s are named as an homage to the pharmacist that sponsored the program back in the 80s. This marks the first time the program has fielded a boys team.

Barker will play outfield and pitcher for Canada, just as he did with the U14 Express team that captured national gold in Saskatoon in August. Also representing Canada will be Campbellford’s Ethan Tombs, who served as a pickup for the Express this summer. Players were selected at  try-out camps held in Innerkip, Ont. and in Saskatoon.
