Early morning drunk driving charges laid in Yarker

Beaver Staff

Not all drunk driving charges are laid late at night.

Proof of that came yesterday at 11 a.m. when officers with the Napanee OPP received a 911 call reporting a male who had been drinking at a corner store in Yarker.

The male was observed getting into a vehicle and leaving the area on County Road 1. Police conducted a traffic stop south of Newburgh and found the 57-year-old male from Kingston to be impaired.

The accused was released on a promise to appear with a first appearance date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee on Oct. 23.

-On Saturday Napanee OPP received complaints from a citizen who had received a letter from someone in France. The author suggests that she is attempting to distribute the wealth of a now deceased customer that lived in Canada and shares the same surname as the intended victim.  The author claims to be having difficulty in finding the appropriate beneficiary and suggest that they share the wealth 50%, 40% and 10% to a charity so that the unclaimed funds do not go back to the government

The OPP would like to make everyone aware that this type of “inheritance” letter is sent in an attempt to ultimately defraud victims of money or steal personal information. Legitimate estates do not solicit trustees or heirs in this manner and do not promise to carry out the exercise ‘through the back door’. At some point in this fraud a victim will be asked to provide personal information or to pay ‘banking fees’ to release the fortune. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is not true.

Anyone with any information or anyone that can identify the suspect is asked to contact the Napanee OPP at 613-354-3369 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).
