Driver charged with refusing to comply with demand, driving with open container of liquor

On March 17, at approximately 7 p.m., officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP responded to a report of a possible single motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle that entered the ditch on Highway 401 westbound in Napanee.

Officers attended the area, however the vehicle had left the scene prior to police arrival. Officers received multiple traffic complaints about the vehicle driving erratically, and were able to locate and stop the vehicle that was now travelling eastbound on Highway 401 in Napanee. At this time, officers spoke to the driver and observed them to be showing signs of impairment.

As a result of an investigation, L&A County OPP have charged a 23-year-old of Loyalist Township, with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Fail to properly wear seatbelt

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on April 5, 2022. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
