Driver charged with impaired following 401 collision

On March 12 at approximately 6 p.m., officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to multiple reports of a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles, westbound on Highway 401 in Loyalist Township.

Officers responded to the scene and the investigation revealed that a sedan was stopped in the left lane of traffic on the westbound side, when it was struck by another westbound pickup truck. The drivers of both vehicles were transported to hospital as a precaution with minor injuries.

As part of the investigation, officers observed the driver of the sedan that was struck to be exhibiting signs of impairment.

As a result, L&A County OPP have charged a 27-year-old of Ottawa with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on March 29. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
