A string of six unanswered goals helped the Deseronto Bulldogs swing Saturday’s game in their favour, defeating the Smiths Falls Rideaus 10-6 at the Deseronto Community Rec Centre.
The victory was no small feat given the hole the Bulldogs found themselves in after the first period. Deseronto trailed 3-0 with just five minutes to go in the opening stanza before Ryan Dreossi got them on the board. The celebration was short-lived however as Smiths Falls responded just 10 seconds later to restore their three goal advantage, which they carried into the first intermission.
A short break was all the Dogs needed as they came out firing in the second, outscoring the visitors 5-0 over the 20-minute span. James Nolan, Chris Rogalsky and Dreossi accounted for the first three goals of the period while Jordan Cannons lit the lamp twice in the final two minutes of the frame.
Deseronto kept up the attack in the third as Brant scored just 28 seconds into the period, completing the run of six unanswered goals and putting the Bulldogs up 7-4 in the process. The two teams had alternating offsetting goals from there-David Bennett and Michael McKenny for the Rideaus, William Harrison and Joey Mayer for the Bulldogs-to make it 9-6. Cannons added an insurance tally for Deseronto to give them some breathing room as they held on for the 10-6 victory.
Corey Kuypers earned the win for Deseronto, finishing with 31 saves on the night.
The win gives the Bulldogs a 5-5 record at the halfway mark of their 20 game season, currently sitting fourth in the Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League’s West Division.
Next up for the Bulldogs is a rematch with the Rideaus on Saturday, this time on the road in Smiths Falls at 7:30 p.m. On Dec. 10 the Bulldogs return home to host the Frontenac Phantoms. Puck drop is 6:30 p.m.
