The Deseronto Bulldogs were able to dig themselves out of one hole but not a second, falling to the Arnprior Rivermen 6-2 at the Deseronto Community Rec Centre on Saturday.
Arnprior grabbed a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes. Deseronto was able to chip away courtesy a power-play goal from Cullen Hinds midway through the first and then a strike from Joey Mayer just over seven minutes into the second.
It would be all Rivermen from there however as Jared Campitelli gave the visitors the lead midway through the second. Arnprior put it away with three in the third from the sticks of Dan Johnson, Luke Peck and Adrian Moyes.
Brady Sarazin took the loss for Deseronto, finishing with 22 saves. Mike McDonald picked up the win at the other end of the ice, collecting 15 saves on the way.
Saturday’s game was held in tribute of team supporter Shae-Lynn Way, a 24-year-old Tamworth native who is battling cancer. This was her last game before leaving for Ottawa to begin a stem cell transplant and 100 day recovery process. Way dropped the ceremonial puck drop and fans were encouraged to donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada on her behalf.
Saturday’s loss drops the Bulldogs to 4-5 on the year, tied for fourth in the six team Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League’s West Division, though just four points behind first place Gananoque.
The Bulldogs will be back in action Nov. 26 when they welcome the Smiths Falls Rideaus to their home ice at the Dog Pound. Puck drop is 6:30 p.m. The Rideaus are 5-5 on the year, two points up on the Bulldogs.
