Hastings-Lennox and Addington MP Derek Sloan in the process of launching his own federal party to be known as The True North Party of Canada.

Speaking at a rally in Alberta on the weekend, Sloan announced his intentions for the first time in public.

“We may be two, three, four weeks away from approval,” Sloan told the crowd. “We’re organizing now. We’re going to light a match folks and it’s going to start burning here and it’s going to spread and it’s going to be the greatest patriotic movement Canada has even seen.”

Sloan is currently in the process of having the party officially approved by Elections Canada.

According to Global News, Sloan still intends to seek re-election in the riding of Hastings-Lennox and Addington during the next federal election. Sloan was elected to the riding in 2019 as a member of the Conservative Party of Canada but has served as an independent since January of this year when leader Erin O’Toole expelled him from the party.

Sloan is scheduled to hold a rally style event in Medicine Hat, Alberta tonight at 8:30 p.m.
