Unable to host some of their traditional holiday themed events on site, the Lennox and Addington County Museum and Archives staff have found a way to keep the tradition alive by moving the festivities online.

Though they can’t hold large gatherings at the museum, there will still be a full slate of Christmas-themed activities for all ages going on this December. The only difference is they will be enjoyed from the comforts of home.

Working with local artist Linda Fraser, the museum will be hosting a weekly craft that includes clay ornaments and felted gnomes, among others. Those interested in participating can pick up a free craft kit from the museum, located at 97 Thomas Street E in Napanee. As they pick up the kit, they can leave an email address. On Wednesday the museum will email a link, which will feature Fraser leading a how-to video on how to complete the craft. The video will go live from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and will remain online for a week for those unable to follow along with the live broadcast.

Craft kits are a first come, first serve basis and are in limited supply.

Keeping with the holiday theme, museum staff members Amber Meyer, JoAnne Himmelman and Kim Kerr will take part in weekly fun-filled challenges.

Each Monday throughout December they’ll film a video of themselves taking part in the challenge-Dec. 7 will feature them attempting to needle point a gift, Dec. 14 will be a historical recipe challenge and Dec. 21 they’ll have to create a holiday-themed centre piece using evergreens.

The videos will be posted to the Lennox and Addington County Museum and Archives Facebook page. The baking challenge will be judged by Ellena Harris-Fleury of Ellena’s Café while the centerpiece challenge will be judged by a member of Napanee Blooms. The videos will also highlight some of the local shops available right in town.

Along with the crafts and challenges, the museum is also hosting its annual Christmas Trees event, which runs Dec. 8-30. Guests can book an appointment to see the trees, which have been decorated by local community organizations using the theme ‘At Home For The Holidays.’ They can also vote for their favourite, with the winning tree earning a prize package for a local community organization.

Groups must be 10 people or less. To book a visit go to lennox-addington.on.ca/museum-archives/book-a-visit.
