Based on its current available capacity, Greater Napanee’s South Fredericksburgh Waste Disposal site has an estimated remaining lifespan of 39 years.

This was among the findings presented to council during their May 9 regular meeting.

That number was in line with last year’s report, which suggests the last 12 months was a typical year for the waste site. A recent survey found there is 196,120 m3 of remaining capacity at the site. The study also found 83 tonnes of recyclables were transferred from the site in 2022, while another 26.86 tonnes were transferred from the Roblin Waste Disposal Site. Surface and ground water sampling were similar to previous years sampling at the Roblin site while it was noted the South Fred site saw a mix of increased water quality along with a decrease in some areas. Water quality tests will continued to be monitored.

-Greater Napanee Pride outlined some of the visual installations they have planned for June’s Pride Month.

In a letter submitted to council they sought and were granted permission to repaint the cross walk on the west side of Market Square, touch up the painted letters in Napanee Lion’s Park if needed, refresh the paint on the Pride themed picnic tables and hang 35 banners across town along the June 3 parade route. Council also noted they are aiming to have a flag pole installed at their town’s new administrative building location of 99 Advance Ave. by the start of June. If in place by then, the plan is to raise the Pride flag on June 2 to kick off the town’s Pride festival. Greater Napanee Emergency Services fire chief Bill Hammond added the fire hall at 66 Advance Ave. has flown the flag the last couple of Junes and plans to do so again this year.

-Council passed a by-law to declare Shannon Kennelly, legal services coordinator, as deputy clerk for the Town of Greater Napanee. The deputy clerk will have full power to act in place of current town clerk, Jessica Walters, in the event the regular clerk is unavailable.

-Another outdoor patio has been given the green light as council approved a request made by Santorini Mediterranean Grill, located at 54 County Rd. 8.

-Council passed a handful of requests all related to health awareness. May 10 was declared Lupus Awareness Day in town while May 12 was recognized as Fibromyalgia Awareness Day.

Coming up on June 14 will be World Blood Donor Day, which falls in the middle of Blood Donor Awareness Week, June 11-17.

As part of their proclamation request, Canadian Blood Services pointed out of all Canadians eligible to give blood, only about four per cent actually roll up their sleeves and do so. That translates to just one in 81 potential donors. Regular mobile donation clinics are held throughout the year at Napanee’s Strathcona Paper Centre.
