Given that Halloween is a mix of superstition and treats, a candy shop makes for the perfect place to get a tarot card reading on Oct. 31.

To that end, Napanee’s Convenient Candy Shop will welcome The Divine Oracle, who will be reading tarot cards on Halloween from noon to 4 p.m. at a cost of $5 per three card spread.

I overheard some people talking about the experience they had with this particular tarot card reader and a very emotional experience, positive of course, and a lightbulb went off in my head,” said Convenient Candy Shop co-owner Gil Samis as to how the event came together. “I think if someone has never experienced tarot card reading before, this would be a great opportunity to have that done. And anyone that has had it knows what an incredible experience it can be for them.”

Dating back to the mid 1400s, tarot card readings purport to be able to offer insights into one’s past, present or future. Their use have evolved over the centuries and in modern day use are seen as a tool for personal growth and introspection for those who have the cards read to them by a tarotist. Each card flipped over has its own meaning and is said to have the ability to predict one’s future.

In the spirit of day, the event is meant to be a fun way to spread a little Halloween spirit.

We want to spread positivity around the world right now, especially with all that’s going on. It’s also fun to do. It’s a fun experience,” said Samis.

There’s no need to make a reservation and cards will be read on a first come, first serve basis. The regular candy shop will be open and have free entry, while the back room will be dressed up to create the full tarot card reading effect.

Looking ahead to the next holiday, Convenient Candy Shop will be hosting Santa Claus on Dec. 8 and 15 for free photos.

The shop is located at 10 Dundas Street E in downtown Napanee.
