CIBC Run for the Cure taking place Sunday at St. Lawrence College

On Sunday, Oct. 2, the 31st annual Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure will unite 54 communities across the country, with the common goal of changing the future of breast cancer forever.

Locally, there will be a run taking place in Kingston’s St. Lawrence College from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Following two years of a virtual format, this year’s in-person event will inspire and reignite a sense of camaraderie and togetherness that the CIBC Run for the Cure has brought to participating communities since the inaugural Run in 1992. Participants are invited to run, walk or roll either 1k or 5k to support the breast cancer cause and raise funds to ensure those facing breast cancer live long, healthy lives.

Breast cancer continues to be the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Canadian women, with one in eeight expected to be diagnosed in their lifetime. Funds raised through the CIBC Run for the Cure enable the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) to continue its work with governments to shape a healthier society, provide vitally important support programs and invest in groundbreaking breast cancer research that help people with breast cancer live their lives as fully as possible.

“The impact of the CIBC Run for the Cure is undeniable. Together, with our supporters, we’ve contributed to significant improvements in the way breast cancer is being prevented, detected, diagnosed and treated,” says Andrea Seale, Chief Executive Officer, Canadian Cancer Society. “But there’s more to be done and we welcome Canadians to join us as we celebrate hope, progress and change.”

The event is an inspiring day open to everyone and participation can either be in-person or virtually through the My Run. Anywhere. Any Way. program. CCS is committed to following all public health guidelines and recommendations to protect people living with breast cancer, as well as all other event attendees, volunteers, employees and supporters.
