Home cooking was just what the Deseronto Bulldogs needed, cruising to a 9-5 win at the Dog Pound on Saturday night over the visiting Tweed Oil Kings.

Noah Brant had a hat trick, Jordan Cannons added a pair while Joey Mayer, Shawn Mackie, Jonny Hill, Eric Holland and Mitch Merry each struck once to pace the Deseronto offense.

Graeme Gemmill had 28 saves to lead the Bulldogs to their first win of the 2023-24 season, evening their Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League record to 1-1 on the young campaign.

Despite the final score, the game was very much undecided heading into the final 20 minutes as the Bulldogs held a slim 4-3 lead entering the third period.

They erupted for five goals and build some distance between themselves and the Oil Kings, eventually cruising to victory.

Deseronto outshot Tweed 52-33 in the game.

Deseronto will be on the road this week, travelling to the Frontenac Community Arena to face the Frontenac Phantoms. Puck drop is 8 p.m. The Phantoms will come into that game with a 1-2 record on the season.
