A string of five unanswered goals was enough to turn the tides in the Deseronto Bulldogs’ favour on Saturday as they secured a 7-4 road victory over the Maxville Millionaires in Eastern Ontario Senior Hockey League action.

His team trailing 3-1 in the second, Landon Punchard ignited the Bulldogs’ offense with a goal at the 8:06 mark. Brody Taylor, Mitch Thompson, Calvin Wojtaszak and Mitch Merry each followed with a goal within the next 13 minutes to put Deseronto ahead 6-3.

After Maxville cut the lead to 6-4, Braedyn Asselstine iced the victory with a late goal to put an end to any Millionaire comeback attempt.

Kyle Wetering had put the Bulldogs up 1-0 late in the first before Maxville reeled off three unanswered.

Graeme Gemmill picked up the win for Deseronto, stopping 39 shots.

With the win Deseronto improved to 3-3 at the one-third mark of their inaugural season. Maxville falls to 0-6.

Deseronto returns home for the first time since Oct. 12 this Saturday, when they host the Cornwall Prowlers. Puck drop is 6:30 p.m. at the Deseronto Community Rec Centre.

Cornwall is 4-1-2 on the season, placing them in second with 10 points, four up on the fourth place Bulldogs. West Carleton leads the pack at 6-0-1, good for 13 points.
