Birthday card shared since 1989

Sisters June Lakins and Flora Pomeroy have been celebrating each other’s birthday with the same birthday card, which was bought back in 1989. Noting it was made of recycled paper, they decided to re-use the same card over and over.

In 1989 June Lakins bought a birthday card for her sister Flora Pomeroy, signed it “Love Ron and June” and mailed it from Camden East to Bath.

Noting the card was printed on recycled paper, Pomeroy decided to do the environmental thing, by signing the same card and presenting it to her sister for her birthday.

From there a tradition was born, one that has continued into 2018. Sadly Ron passed away in 1990, but the two sisters have continued to pass the card back and forth every birthday.

The card that has been passed back and forth for 30 years.

The card was nearly lost at times when both sold their homes over the years, but fortunately they’ve always been able to find it. They now live in apartments in Napanee.

Pomeroy recieved the card once again earlier this month when she celebrated her 95th birthday. Likewise Lakins can expect to find it in the mail on June 16, when she’ll turn 90.

Nobodies knows who will end up keeping the card, but both sisters say they’ve had fun keeping it going all these years.
