Downtown Napanee will switch on the holiday spirit Nov. 15 during the eighth annual Big Bright Lights Show Block Party.

Hosted by the Downtown Business Improvement Area, the event kicks off at 3 p.m. with shopping and NDSS carollers. In anticipation of another huge turn out, a bigger section of Dundas Street will be sectioned off and closed to traffic.

“We are encouraging people to come and shop and eat downtown,” said Tiffany Lloyd, Downtown Napanee BIA executive director. “We’ll be giving away prizes every half hour to people who are spending their time downtown.”

Those prizes include a beer tasting at MacKinnon Brewers or a $50 gift card to Marlene’s Mayhew Jewellers, among others.

At 4 p.m. food trucks and hot chocolate vendors will be open for business, as well as a portable heat zone in the downtown core, sponsored by Home Hardware Napanee. The Gibbard District will be sponsoring a photo booth as well as providing seating to accompany the food truck vendors.

At 5 p.m. stores will unveil their Christmas window displays, which will be voted on by customers. The top display will win a MyFM prize pack.

At 6 p.m. DJ Digital Mike will be spinning tunes while Razberry the Clown and Santa begin strolling the streets.

Just before 8 p.m. the countdown begins and over 750,000 LED lights will illuminate the downtown core. The lights will then come on every evening through Jan. 5.
