Bath and District Lion Club’s (BDLC) pitched in to help keep students safe this school year, donating $1,000 worth of facemasks to Bath Public School.
Delivered Wednesday to the school, the principal of Bath Public School indicated they would use the masks in emergency situations such as if a student forgot their mask at home or lost their mask on the playground. The Limestone District School Board is asking students of all ages to wear a mask when on a school bus or in class.
The BDLC members would normally raise the money for local organizations such as Bath Public School or local hospitals through Community Spirit Bingo Centre and the City of Kingston Licensing Centre. Unfortunately since March, COVID-19 has put a halt to any assignments the BDLC had at either of these locations.
“Under normal circumstances our members would work two or three assignments a month at Community Spirit Bingo but since March we’ve not been working any assignments due to COVID-19,” said Dan McGrath, president of the BDLC. “All funds generated from working our assignments there (Community Spirit Bingo Centre and the City of Kingston Licensing Centre) must be donated back to our community. As a result we have donated to families in need whether it be for a family where a loved one suddenly passes or a family member is struck by cancer, to giving to our hospitals for PPE to fight COVID-19, we keep it all local.”
The facemasks were purchased from the local Pharmasave Drug store where the owner, Mike Pavagadhi agreed to sell the masks to the BDLC for his cost.
“We contacted our local Pharmasave Drug store and he agreed to supply a $1,000 worth of masks for his cost,” McGrath expressed. “Thanks Mike and Staff at Pharmasave.”
