The Bath Artisans group are back with their Bath Artisans Fall Art Show Nov. 5-6 at St. John’s Hall in Bath.

The group, founded by a group of local artists in 1990, held their first meeting in Jan. 1991 and hosted their first show later that year in June in the Bath Old Town Hall.

“Trudy Carkner put out a sign up sheet at a Christmas party, held in Bath, to see if there was enough interest,” stated Marion Janssens, coordinator for the Fall Art Show. “Two people signed up, Ruth Dukas and Jessie Demaine. The first meeting was held at Trudy’s house January 1991 and the first Bath Artisans Show was held in the Bath Old Town Hall in June 1991. Our purpose from the beginning was to be all-inclusive and encouraging, to help everyone find their passion for creating art for the joy it gives them. Also, Ruth Dukas, now living in Kingston, remembers that the people that signed up did many fun things together and they all learned from the different talents that each member brought to the group. She especially remembered the friendship that they enjoyed in those early days.”

Ever since the group started, 31 years ago, they have been having at least three shows per year.

“Fast forward to 2022, 31 years later, the group is still flourishing and growing,” Janssens expressed. “The original intent of inclusiveness and encouragement are still a theme of the group.”

The Nov. 5-6 show runs from 10am-4pm with 20 artists participating, offering a diverse mix of mediums and styles.

“Trudy Carkner is still an active member and will be taking part in the upcoming show on Nov. 5 and 6,” said Janssens. “Donna Robinson, another founding member, who joined the group in 1991, will also be taking part. Over the years artists and artisans of many diverse talents have come and gone. Many members have been part of the group for 10 years or more. We now have, almost 40 members, and an eclectic mix of skills and talents. Although the majority of the group are painters, we also have wood turners, precious stones, fabric wall art, sculptures, photography and handmade cards.”
