Greater Napanee will celebrate the fall harvest along with its vibrant art scene this Saturday as it hosts both the Downtown Napanee Scarecrow Festival and Culture Days.

The region’s bustling agricultural roots will be on display in the Market Square with live musical performances from Trilogy and Evan Claus, an appearance from Lily the Fairy, the Monarch Queen, Chase the Pup, a goat obstacle course, children’s activities by LARC, Maple the Milking Cow, pumpkin carving, 4-H educational exhibit, a bouncy castle sponsored by Barr Construction, wagon rides and more.

The final Hometown Market of the 2018 season will also be staged in the Square, complete with plenty of vendors selling homemade vegetables, edibles, jewellery and crafts.

The fun and activities won’t be confined to the Market Square however as Culture Days events will be taking place throughout the town.

“Taste of Gibbard District will be here, Tim Nimigan will be doing one of the pallet’able art projects on the corner, so he’ll be looking for input from the public and there’s a photography walk in Springside park,” said Annie Manion, economic development coordinator and community and corporate services for the Town of Greater Napanee.

The Taste of Gibbard District, which will be held at the site of the future condo development inside the historic former furniture factory, will include candied apples from Spring Meadow Orchards, fudge from Community Living, Hogan’s Honey and Touch of Wellness Spa will be sampling Aveda products while Ellena’s shares some tasty creations.

“There’s a sidewalk chalk party at Starlet, live music at Seasons, sea glass at Sand’n’Sea Boutique,” added Tiffany Lloyd, business manager with the Downtown Napanee BIA.

Other Culture Days events include Off The Wall Barefoot Soccer at Studio Yoga Yoga, which features playing soccer barefoot with a plush ball while listening to world music, a Labyrinth Walk at Grace United Church, which is a guided spiritual walk through the church, En Plein Air Painting Event in the Market Square, which allows guests to experiment with water colours and the Napanee Photo Club will be displaying some of their prints at the Lennox and Addington County General Hospital.

A complete list of times and locations of the events can be found at www.CultureDays.ca and searching Napanee.

Culture Days is a national celebration of arts and culture, held in communities across the country the weekend of Sept. 28-30.

During the Scarecrow Festival, which runs on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the roads around Market Square and John Street will be blocked off and no parking will be available. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs if they plan to watch the live music, which will be performed from the steps of town hall.

The Scarecrow Festival is hosted by the Napanee BIA and Town of Greater Napanee.
