With imaginations unleashed, about 30 children created acrylic paintings representing family pets and memories of visits, or anticipation of future visits, to exotic locales with their families during a special Family Day edition of Museum Kids Saturday on Feb. 1 at the Lennox and Addington Museum and Archives.

Napanee artist Helen Kosmopoulos was the instructor for the event and was delighted by both the turnout and the enthusiasm of her young students.
“The kids did amazing today,” she said. “They followed instruction really well and showed amazing creativity.”
She said this was her first time teaching a children’s art class, but it likely won’t be the last.
“I loved every second of it!” she said.
Several of the children were accompanied by grandparents such as Veronica Hartman of Camden East. She says she brings her grandchildren whenever possible, because those who run the program do a great job.
“Sometimes I’m disappointed when the kids have soccer or hockey and I can’t come!” she laughed.
Children’s program director Amber Meyer said children from as far away as Amherstview, Bath and Sydenham signed up for the morning event.
This was the first Museum Kids (event) for 2020,” Meyer said. “The next one is fiddle music, and the kids will be making their own instruments.”
That event will be held on Saturday, March 7, and will feature a sing-along of Irish music with Mary Kennedy and Sharon McLaughlin. Admission is free, but pre-registration is required.
