Downtown Napanee will resemble a scene from The Walking Dead on Saturday as Halloween fanatics get out their ghoulish make-up and take part in the third annual Napanee Zombie Walk.

Undead of all ages can take part in the walk, be they big, small, superheroes or princesses as those that take part in the kid friendly event are encouraged to get creative with their costumes. Participants will meet in front of the Napanee Legion Branch 137 at 2 p.m. From there they will shuffle in their best zombie-like walk through the downtown core.

Anyone taking part in the walk is encouraged to bring a donation of winter hats or mittens to the walk, which will be collected and distributed to the less fortunate ahead of the cold weather season.

“The fire department will put it all together with the police and they do the Clothes for Kids,” explains Wendy Oakley, who is once again organizing the walk this year.

“We’re going to gather everybody (at the Legion) and then we’ll start the walk around 2:30 p.m.,” said Oakley. “The Legion is nice enough to offer us hot chocolate when we get back.”

Popularity in the event has grown steadily over the first two years as Oakley aims to make it an established tradition in Napanee.

“We’re just really looking for hats and mitts for kids and we need zombies to walk around here,” said Oakley. “‘Tis the season, we need the dead to rise.”

Donations of hats and mitts can also be leading up to the walk at the Napanee Legion, located at 26 Mill St.
