Wooly Bully Race fundraiser returns to Amherst Island Aug. 18

Amherst Island’s Wooly Bully Races will return for a 12th running on Aug. 18.

The run begins at the farm of Dave Willard, 600 South Services Road on the island. This year, the 10k/5K races will start simultaneously 9:45 a.m., preceded by the 1K Kids Run at 9:20 a.m. Chip timing will be provided by Sportstats Race Timing Services. The course follows a scenic route along Lake Ontario.

Each kilometre of the course will be marked with two water stations along the way.

Participants can sign up at online at www.krra.org/events/wooly-bully-races-5k10k/ until Aug. 16 for a cost of $45 for Kingston Road Runners’ Association members, or $50 for non-members. Entry fee for the 1K Fun Run for children age 5 to 12 is $10.The official charity of the Wooly Bully Races is the Neilson Store Museum and Cultural Centre, located in the village of Stella on Amherst Island.

Awards will be presented to the top three female and male performers in the 10K in each age bracket, starting at 19 and under, followed by each 10 year grouping.

This run is the final face of the Tri-Island Series, which also included events on How Island and Wolfe Island. Runners who complete all three races will earn a Sri-Island Series medal.

The ferry over to Amherst Island runs on the half hour from the Millhaven dock on Highway 33 just east of Bath. The 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. ferries will get participants to the race in plenty of time while the 9:30 a.m. ferry will not. The ferry leaves from the Stella dock on the hour. Car pooling is encouraged.
