Habitat for Humanity’s Kingston Limestone Region is inviting women to lend a hand next week at their site located at 183 Cooks Rd in Roblin.

From Tuesday to Friday, they’ll be hosting a women build week with volunteers encouraged to come out between 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m.

“We’re inviting women from all walks of life to participate, no experience required,” said Teresa Zhang, office manager for Habitat for Humanity Kingston Limestone Region. “All tools and safety equipment are provided. Lunch and t-shirts will be provided as well. We have a site supervisor on site at all times and he will be the one teaching workers how to use power tools and also teaching them how to do flooring, painting, possibly trimming, installing doors as well for the house.”

Zhang says it’s a great opportunity to learn a new skill while giving back to the community. At the same time, she emphasizes that all volunteers are welcome at any time, regardless of gender.

“The program is not to exclude men but to include women and encourage women to come out and participate,” said Zhang. “We also have a lot of male volunteers that have never built before. It doesn’t matter if you’re a guy or a woman, everybody that wants to learn and help out a family in need, they’re welcome to come.”

The womens’ build isn’t just about doing a good deed, but about having some fun as well while working as a team.

“The event is really for women to come out and empower them to do something different and challenging perhaps,” she said. “It’s great if women have daughters, sisters, moms, grandmothers, girlfriends. It’s good to come out as a group because it’s a great team building experience and definitely very rewarding.”

Those interesting in lending a hand at the site can call 613-548-8763 ext. 202 or email volunteer@habitatkingston.com.

Entering its fourth week of construction, the house is on track to be completed by the end of September. It marks the first Habitat for Humanity build in Roblin and second in Greater Napanee.
