‘Wild about Wildlife’ Days coming this summer

There will be an opportunity for children to get an up-close look at wildlife during 'Wild about Wildlife Days' this summer.

Young nature enthusiasts have a couple of dates to mark on their calendars for this summer.

Quite Conservation is hosting ‘Wild about Wildlife’ days across the watershed over the next two months, two of which take place in this area.

The first happens on July 8 at the Lions Park at Beaver Lake in Erinsville from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The second happens at Napanee’s Conservation Park on Aug. 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission to these events is free.

“We are expecting a great turnout for this year’s Wild about Wildlife days,” says Quite Conservation’s Education and Stewardship Co-ordinator Maya Navrot. “These days are great opportunities for families and people of all ages to get outdoors and learn about their natural surroundings, explore their environment and learn about fascinating creatures through hands-on interactive activities. Each day is jam-packed with a variety of activities so that each child can learn and experience many different things.”

Some of those activities include making a paper pot and bringing home a wildflower for bees and butterflies; meeting live falcons and learning about raptors (from noon to 2 p.m.); learning about water bugs and meeting some ‘creek critters’; learning about your watershed with a watersheds model; learning about invasive species that live in our area; creating art in nature; and visiting a live and interactive ‘Ontario Reptiles at Risk’ display.

Specific to the Napanee event, there will be a performance from the ‘Paddling Puppeteers’ at 11:30 a.m.

In order of children to participate, they must be accompanied by an adult.
