The Morningstar Mission Warming Centre will be open for its final night tomorrow night, closing the morning of March 15, marking the second year offering this service.

Originally slated to stay open until April 16, in light of warmer temperatures, and recent developments related to COVID-19, Morningstar’s board, in consultation with the Warming Centre Advisory Committee, has recommended an earlier closure. The strength of the community volunteers has been vital to supporting onsite paid staff. The centre was able to operate for three months due to the commitment of 360 volunteer shifts (each six hours).

With funding from TC Energy (with Town of Greater Napanee), and additional funding support from NACHC, and PELASS, this seasonal effort to provide a safe, warm place for the community’s homeless clients was an important offering in Greater Napanee.

Morningstar will continue to identify next steps in providing care and augmenting current programs to meet the needs of the homeless, lonely, and hungry in the community. A full report will be released to PELASS to inform their homeless strategy and to TC Energy, providing key data for future services to the homeless.
