Morningstar Mission will operate a warming centre this winter from their building at 59 Water Street W in Greater Napanee.

The centre will run from Dec. 5, 2021 until March 31, 2022, seven nights a week. The centre will be funding through a grant from Prince Edward-Lennox and Addington Social Services (PELASS) of $104,166.

“The warming centre would be a place for individuals who are experiencing homelessness in the entire service area to keep warm and would operate seven days a week,” PELASS manager Connor Dorey wrote in a report to Greater Napanee council. “The warming centre would be operated and administered by Morningstar Mission staff and volunteers. The total requested amount is $104,166, and Morningstar Mission has indicated that they would be willing to operate the warming centre at their location. The majority of the funding would be directed to staffing costs to operate the warming centre.”

In previous winters the centre had been located at the Napanee Area Community Health Centre.
