Volunteers are needed for an Aug. 12 food drive that will take place simultaneously outside of Greater Napanee’s Metro, Shopper’s Drug Mart, No Frills and Giant Tiger.

Organized by L&A Mutual Insurance and 88.7 MyFM, the food collected will go towards the Napanee Salvation Army and Morningstar Mission. The drive will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to stand outside each of the four locations as well as to help sort the food at the Mission from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

“We haven’t done a door to door food drive in awhile now,” said Kevin Alkenbrack, executive director at the Mission. “Having lots of volunteers and having it at the storefront allows us to get fresher items and we can hand out a flyer highlighting the specific needs we have and that allows people to buy newer stuff for us that fits more what the Salvation Army and Morningstar Mission can use.”

This will be the second year for the event.
