King’s Town Trekkers Volkssport Club has selected Napanee as the site of their annual walk, which will take place Aug. 11.

The group, which encourages its members to take part in outdoor activities to improve their health, fitness and quality of life, selects one community each year for a group walk. There will be a 10 km walk departing at 10 a.m. as well as a 5 km walk for those who don’t wish to go as far at 10:30 a.m. Each group leaves from Springside Park with both ending at the Waterfront River Pub and Terrace for lunch.

“It’s a worldwide organization,” explains Doug Woods of the Kingston based local Volkssport chapter. “There’s different clubs around the world, lots of them in the States, a couple of them up in the Ottawa area. We’ve got a club here in Kingston. Each year we do an anniversary walk. In the 50th anniversary in 2017 we did a walk through Picton. In 2018 we did a walk through Bath and this year we’re doing it through Napanee.”

There’s no race to the finish line or prize at stake. Instead the leisurely walk is designed to show people the benefits of being active at any age. Everyone who finishes the low intensity walking course is considered a winner.
