Vehicle stopped for travelling 140 km/h on 401, additional drug trafficking charges laid

A Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) team officer of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle for speeding on Hwy 401.

On Feb. 14, just just before noon, a T.I.M.E. team officer was conducting traffic patrol on Hwy 401 in the Township of Tyendinaga The officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed toward him. The officer activated the radar of the police vehicle and obtained a speed of 140 km/hr. The vehicle was stopped without incident on Hwy 401 Westbound between Highway 49 and Deseronto Road. There was a male driver and male passenger in the front of the vehicle and a female passenger in the rear of the vehicle. During the interaction with police drugs were observed in the vehicle. Everyone was placed under arrest and the vehicle was searched incidental to arrest. As a result of the search police located, 665 Methamphetamine pills, 60 Amphetamine pills, 15g of cocaine, 1/2g of crack cocaine, 69 fentanyl pills, 14g crystal meth, 21 oxycodone pills, and various other prescription pills.

As a result of the investigation, Benoit Thuot, 45 year old male, from Saint-Jerome, Quebec was charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine – two counts
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid -two counts
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs – five counts
  • Possession of a schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts
  • Speeding
  • Drive while under suspension
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

As a result of the investigation, Michael Remon, 29 year old, from Dorval, Quebec was charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine – two counts
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid -two counts
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs – five counts
  • Possession of a schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts
  • Possession of break in instruments
  • Failure to comply with release order – two counts

As a result of the investigation, Doryane Benoit-Paul, 22 year old, from from Saint-Jerome, Quebec was charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine – two counts
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid -two counts
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs – five counts
  • Possession of a schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts
  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Failure to comply with release order

All accused were held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on a later date.
