Valentina Filipenko, a Ukrainian refugee who fled the war and arrived in Canada earlier this month, will be speaking about her experience at a pair of fundraisers in Napanee, April 9 and 10.

She’ll first speak at Grace United Church, located at the corner of Bridge Street E and Robert Street, on April 9 at 3 p.m. The next day she’ll speak at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, at 179 West St. at 10 a.m.

With the help of translator Maria Stebelsky, vice president of Ukrainian Canadian Social Services, Filipenko will speak about her experiences in Ukraine and what is needed to support her country and its citizens. Following the talk there will be an opportunity to make a donation for relief efforts in Ukraine.

Donations will be channelled through Ukrainian Canadian Social Services, a non-government organization with 30 years experience doing food relief work in Ukraine. Charitable donation receipts will be given for amounts over $20.
