On Aug. 27, the United Church Women gathered at Old Hay Bay Church to celebrate their 55th Anniversary as an organization.

The service was led by Bay of Quinte Conference UCW President Barb De Jeet and Communion was offered by National President of the UCW Nancy Sutherland.

Approximately 70 people joined in the celebration of the women and all of their accomplishments, as well as the 225th Anniversary of Old Hay Bay Church. Their offering was dedicated to the restoration fund for the church, and raised over $1,000.

The service was followed by picnics on the grounds, as people mixed and mingled while waiting for the annual pilgrimage service. The presiders of this service were Rev. William McDowell and Rev. David O. Jones. The guest speaker was Rev. Laurence DeWolfe from Glenview Presbyterian Church, Toronto.

The music for both services was provided by Marion Moon from the Adolphustown United Church.

OHBC is Canada’s oldest surviving Methodist Church, and is now owned by The United Church of Canada and operated by volunteer trustees and custodians.

The church is located at 2365 South Shore Road, Napanee.  You can follow us on Facebook and obtain further information about the church at www.oldhaybaychurch.ca.
