U18 Stars place first at Milk Tournament, U13 Stars punch ticket to Silver Stick

Three of the five Napanee Stars teams were away at tournaments with excellent results.

After a fine 8-0 shutout win in Stirling on Thursday, the U18 squad edged Stirling 3-2 in the Finals of the Milk Tournament held in Stirling. Earlier they were solid defensively to shutout Elmvale 3-0, Orono 6-0, and Essa 5-0.

-Not to be outdone, the U15 Stars also reached the finals of that same tournament in their division. However, Essa doubled up on the Stars 4-2 in the finals. To get there, the locals defeated Lindsay 3-1, Paris 4-0, and tied South Muskoka 1-1.

-Meanwhile, the Desjardin Insurance U13 Stars punched their ticket to Sarnia with a finals win at the Regional Silver Stick for A teams held in Cobourg. Facing Quinte West, they went to overtime before winning 3-2. A 5-0 win over Northumberland, and 4-4 ties with both Kingston and Quinte West put them in the semifinals with Nickel City from the Sudbury area. They dominated these opponents 7-1 to reach the Final.

-In league play, the Tomlinson Group U11s were victorious over Loyalist 6-2 in Amherstview, and dumped Gananoque 8-1 on the road as well. On Sunday at home, they hosted Tweed to win 6-0. Cooper Plumley got the winner six minutes in putting a loose puck between the legs of the goaltender. Maddux Hartwick got the first of two converting a loose puck. Brock Gunter took a feed from the corner to tally shorthanded. Starting from centre, Noah Raycroft scored on a fine individual effort. Caleb Baker rounded out the scoring with a long shot that eluded the goalie. Shots favoured Napanee 45-0.

-The Conger’s Plumbing U11 AE’s got their second win of the season edging Centre Hastings 6-5 in an offensive battle on the road in Marmora.
