Two suspects charged after fleeing police in stolen vehicle

Members of the Lennox and Addington OPP have charged two people with multiple criminal offences after they fled from police.

On May 20, 2022 at approximately 6:30 a.m., officers were called to a residence in Napanee for a possible stolen vehicle, however two people fled the location in the vehicle prior to police arrival.

Officers from Tyendinaga Police Service stopped the vehicle a short time later on Cannery Road. The two occupants fled from police on foot. The female passenger was quickly arrested, while the male driver fled on foot into the woods.

The OPP Canine Unit and members of the East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) were called to assist in locating the driver, who was arrested a short time later. Investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen.

A 39-year-old, of Centre Hastings was arrested and charged with:

·        Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

·        Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

·        Resist peace officer

·        Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code

·        Dangerous operation

·        Flight from peace officer

·        Bribery of officers

·        Driving while under suspension

·        Race a motor vehicle – Excessive Speed

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

A 35-year-old, of Quinte West was arrested and charged with:

·        Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

·        Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

·        Resist peace officer

·        Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code

·        Unauthorized possession of weapon

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on July 19, 2022.
