Napanee District Secondary School saw three of its students take home gold, silver and bronze at the Skills Ontario Competition, held in Toronto earlier this month.
The competition featured high school students from across the province compete in over 60 skills categories such as auto service, baking, 3D animation, coding, hairstyling, photography, robotics and more. During the competition the students demonstrated their skill in front of a panel of judges who assigned points based on their given criteria.
NDSS’ Lane Fretts captured gold in heavy equipment, Joey Yoemans earned silver in auto paint and Luke Van Hoek won bronze in auto collision repair. This marked the first time NDSS had three medalists, an added bonus that it was in three different competitions.
In order to qualify for the provincial competition the students had to place first in the regional competition, in Napanee’s case held across the Limestone district.
All told NDSS had 13 students qualify for provincials including Austin McColman (carpentry) Riley Haaksman (auto service), Emma Wales (fashion design), Alisha Haaksman (auto paint), Grady Creamer (welding), Grant Jones (team of two carpentry), Patrick Carey (prepared speech), Tate Dickerson (auto collision), Jeremy Gardner (small engine), Max Morrisey (team of two carpentry) and Matt Lougheed (cabinet making).
