Trinity United Church in Napanee will host its first in a planned series of lectures on Thursday at 2 p.m. aimed at covering topics of focusing on healthy living.

Known as Trinity Presents, the debut event will include speakers from the South East Local Health Integration Network, Lennox and Addington Seniors Outreach Services and the KFLA Alzheimer Society.

Each group will offer some information about the services they provide, whether it be housing for seniors, activities for seniors or support for patients and families living with Alzheimer’s.

The event is free of charge and open to everyone in the community.

“We want to make sure we’re address topics that are of interest and value,” said Sue Walden, one of the Trinity Presents event organizers. “We’ll be doing evaluations and we’ll be asking people after this, ‘did it work, what else might you be interested in?’ We’re really looking to outreach to the community.”

Organizers hope the session will provide valuable information on some of the local agencies that people might not know a lot about.

“They key point is awareness so you’re not waiting until you’re in need,” adds Dennis Mills, another of the event’s organizers. “It’s not just for a certain demographic of older people, it’s something everyone should know about.”

With that in mind, Mills says the presentation may be of interest to caregivers and family members of senior citizens as well.

The event will run from 2 to 4 p.m. at Trinity United, with guests using the accessible John Street entrance.

Along with lectures, Trinity United will also be hosting a series of concerts as well. The first of which will be Feb. 10 with an event called Heart to Heart, which features She Sings, a Kingston based ladies’ choir, singing with the Kingston Youth Choir.

“The healthy living series will be free,” said Penny McPherson, an organizer with Trinity Presents. “The idea is that the proceeds from the concerts will pay to support what we’re able to offer the community.”

Tickets for the concert will go on sale later this year ahead of the holiday season.
