Traffic stop results in impaired charge for Whitby man

On Sept. 11  at approximately 2 a.m., officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP were on general patrol and initiated a traffic stop on a parked vehicle on the County Road 4 eastbound off ramp of Hwy 401.

Police determined that the driver was showing signs of impairment and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for processing.

As a result of the investigation, L&A County OPP have charged a 33-year-old from Whitby with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drug

·      Operating a motor vehicle while over legal blood alcohol limit

·      Fail to properly wear seatbelt

·      Fail to surrender insurance card

·      Having care or control of a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on Sept. 28, 2021. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

-On Sept. 10 at approximately 9 p.m., officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP responded to a report of a possible impaired driver being followed by an off duty officer.  The vehicle was travelling in an erratic manner on Hwy 401 eastbound.

Officers initiated a traffic stop at the Centre Street off ramp in Greater Napanee and determined that the driver was showing signs of impairment.  An Approved Screening Device was administered and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for processing.

As a result of the investigation, L&A County OPP have charged, a 41-year-old man of London contrary to the criminal code with:

·      Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drug

·      Failure or refusal to comply with demand.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on Sept. 28. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
